Expanding Awareness of Government Property Management Standards in a Large Manufacturing Company

The Customer

Cobham is a leading global technology and services innovator, respected for providing solutions to the most challenging problems, from deep space to the depths of the ocean. They have contracts with Department of Defense to produce leading edge products. From the components to the assembled products, these are Government Properties.

The Challenge:

They have contracts with Department of Defense to produce leading edge products. From the components to the assembled products, these are Government Properties and need to be managed in a way that is compliant to FAR/DFARs. Many people in the company, including people on the floor repairing, assembling assets, tagging assets, and people who are conducting regular inventory audits, will need to be trained with the policies and procedures.

However, to most people, tracking Government Property (GFP and CAP) in a way that is compliant to FAR/DFARs is not their primary responsibilities. So how do you introduce this process to a large group of employees, that may view the new processes and rules as “extra work” or “interruption to their regular job”?

The Solution:

A core team, consisted of leaders from contract management, finance, IT project management and the Government Property Management administrator, was tasked with solving this challenging problem. They have chosen the eQuip! asset management system for its ease of use, and comprehensive features and functionalities.

They deployed three tactics to make the implementation a success:

  1. Obtain senior leadership’s support to the Government Property Management business processes and system.
  2. Implement the Government Property Management system within a core group first, before expanding it to the “Property Custodians.”
  3. Invest in training, training, training.

The Outcome:

In less than half a year, they implemented the eQuip, including data set up, system configuration, and user training.
